Gets Me Down
Jessie Monk

Announced under the label ‘avant-folk from Australia’, be kind festival made me notice Jessie Monk. Jessie's strong songwriting and vocals are partly reminiscent of an early Joni Mitchell and yet have a character all of their own. Fabiana Striffler on violin and Paul Santner on double bass also deliver flawless vocals that complement the performance. This song captures the joyful essence of the evening for me, while the whole album Continually Becoming is wonderful.

Maro
I heard Maro as a member of Jacob Collier's band at a concert in Berlin a few years ago and was reminded of her sheer presence and mesmerising voice at this Tiny Desk Concert. This song from the album hortelã acts like a jewellery box for Maro’s voices and manifests her outstanding musicality.

Chapelier Fou
Nintendo meets violin, french Eighties synth-pop marries woodwinds, sequenced minimal music as the soundtrack of Knight Rider – it‘s hard to describe the universe of Chapelier Fou‘s music – and that’s a good thing!
